In June 1966, under the leadership of Mother Theodosia as Superior General and Mother Vera as Regional Superior, the convent and school were established on the campus of RRl (Regional Research Laboratory) in Jorhat. Initially, Dr. Iyengar, the Director of RRL, was surprised by their sudden arrival due to postal communication issues. Despite this, four pioneering sisters—Srs. Electa, Verona, Alonsa, and Daria—accompanied by Fr. Rubio, S.D.B., the Vicar General of the Dibrugarh Diocese, managed to organize the space provided by RRL amid various challenges.
Facing difficulties in settling down and setting up the school and residence, the sisters temporarily relocated to assist at Fr. Fossati’s small school in Digboi until December 1966, as RRL’s facilities were not yet ready. In 1967, the group intended for Jorhat returned to RRL to begin the school with an initial enrolment of 18 students from RRL, Air Force, Army, and Jorhat Town. School hours were adjusted to accommodate students and the community.
Seeking a permanent location, the sisters acquired 5 acres of land in Cinnamara from the Jorhat Tea Company. Meanwhile, they actively collaborated with the Parish Priest, engaged in catechism teaching, and participated in parish activities. Their dedication attracted visits from dignitaries such as the Director General of CSIR and Pro-Nuncio J. Caprio, who commended their work with children and the parish.
After five years at RRL, the sisters relocated to Cinnamara in January 1973, where their own school building was nearing completion. With the support of parents, they continued their educational mission. By the end of December 1973, the school’s enrolment had grown to 500 students, prompting parents to advocate for affiliation with the ICSE Council rather than the Assam Board.
