Bishop Stephan Rotluanga CSC of Aizawl extended a heartfelt invitation to the Apostolic Carmel Sisters to take the lead in educating children in the Catholic faith, amidst the predominant influence of Protestantism, particularly Presbyterianism. The foundation’s primary mission thus focuses on nurturing faith through education and pastoral care.
Carmel Convent, Luangmual, Aizawl, was established on January 25, 2006, with Bishop Stephen presiding over the blessing of a humble cottage marking its inception. Initially, the pioneer sisters resided in an Assam-style house, finding contentment in their simple accommodations.
Both the Church and School are situated within the same compound. During the early days when there was no resident priest, the sisters conducted Mass three times a week at the convent, while on Sundays they joined parishioners for Mass in a private residence serving as a makeshift church.
Throughout the past 17 years, the unwavering dedication and sacrifices of the sisters have led many individuals to embrace the Catholic faith. Every Sunday, the sisters faithfully accompany priests to Mass, a testament to God’s blessings upon both the sisters and the local community. Since its inception, the sisters have tirelessly and selflessly worked to deepen people’s commitment to the Catholic faith.
May God’s blessings continue to sustain the pioneering spirit of these sisters and all who serve, present and future, in this blessed land of the Blue Mountains.
