On June 11, 2010, a significant milestone was reached as Sr. Belina was installed as the inaugural Superior of Carmel Convent, Tollygunge Provincial House. “The dream of having a Superior in Carmel Convent, Tollygunge has finally been realized,” remarked Sr. Mirabelle, the Provincial Superior.
The community was established with a specific apostolate in mind: providing residence for student sisters from our Province attending colleges in Kolkata. It also serves as a haven for sisters from our Province studying outside Kolkata during their vacations, and as a transit stop for those on journeys. Additionally, sisters in need of medical care visit here for their health needs.
The community plays a pivotal role in organizing Seminars, Retreats, and Meetings for various groups within our Province. It warmly welcomes sisters from other Provinces visiting Kolkata for sightseeing and tours.
In addition to our primary apostolate, we extend our care to the Home for the Aged at Tollygunge. Sisters visit every Sunday for Communion Service and during Christmas, organize confession, Mass, and distribute tea, snacks, and gifts to all residents. During Lent, the sisters lead the Way of the Cross.
The sisters of Tollygunge Community are committed to continuing our service to our fellow sisters and all who seek our assistance.
