The General and Provincial chapters of our Congregation, along with the teachings of the Church and a deeper understanding of our charism, inspired us to expand the province’s apostolic efforts by increasing our involvement in the lives of the poor and marginalized. Sister Sipsa, trained in healthcare, joined the Jesuits in 2000 and contributed to their NGO, Udayani Social Action Forum. In 2004, Sister Alexia completed her master’s in Social Work and also joined the Jesuits. She became a registered Family Counselor in the Correctional Homes of West Bengal under a central government scheme, serving within jails under the guidance of Fr. Xavier Jayaraj S.J. With valuable knowledge and experience gained from the Jesuits, our province gained the confidence to operate independently in the realm of social work. Thus, Asha Deep Trust (Ray of Hope), an initiative of the Apostolic Carmel, was officially registered on December 11, 2007, under the mentorship of Fr. Xavier Jayaraj S.J.
Recognizing the growing need, the Provincial decided to establish a dedicated residence for those engaged in social work. Consequently, a flat was purchased in Bansdroni in 2009, and the community was established in 2010. Through these initiatives, we are extending our outreach to the marginalized, embodying and spreading the compassionate love of Jesus to those most in need
