Carmel School Durgapur began as a branch of Carmel School MAMC on July 18, 1966, at St. Paul’s Road in Steel Township, with an initial enrolment of 187 students. The school relocated to Guru Nanak Road on January 15, 1976. By 1988, the middle school was upgraded to a high school, and due to its significant progress, the sisters responded to public demand by introducing +2 sections in 1992.

The school is officially recognized by the Educational Department, Secondary Branch of the Government of West Bengal under Government Order No. 193-Edn (S) 38-6/75 dated March 6, 1990, and is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, as per letter No. A/P/635 dated October 12, 1990.
