On August 14, 1966, as they journeyed to begin a new mission in Jorhat, Sisters Electa, Alonsa, and Jude arrived in Digboi at the request of Fr. Fossatti, who sought their help in establishing The Apostolic Carmel’s presence there. They joined the parish school as staff members.
On November 25, 1966, Sr. Bernard arrived with Sr. Assumpta, who took on the role of acting superior, alongside Sisters Magdelene Mary and Petra, to form the first community in Digboi. Sisters Electa, Alonsa, and Jude departed for their new mission in Jorhat on December 26, 1966.
On January 16, 1967, The Little Flower School (the parish school) was formally handed over to the Sisters of The Apostolic Carmel, with the stipulation that 10% of the annual income be paid to the Parish Priest as rental charges. Sr. Nympha, the first Superior, arrived on January 30, 1967, to take charge of the school, and Sr. Fortunata assumed the role of headmistress on June 16, 1967. The school initially offered education from Kindergarten through Class V.
On February 27, 1969, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Digboi, leased the present land to the school for ten years. Classes began in the Sports Club building on March 3, 1969, and the institution operated as Carmel School. Approximately 40 students from distant locations were admitted to the boarding house. The inauguration of the new school building took place on November 27, 1972.
The first batch of Class X students, comprising eight individuals, sat for the HSLC examination in 1974 at Balika Vidya Mandir, the center for private candidates, and all passed with first and second divisions.
On the eve of the Feast of St. Joseph, the school received its affiliation letter from the Council for ISC Examination, New Delhi, in response to a request from the school authority.
The history of Carmel School Digboi is marked by numerous blessings from its inception to the present day.
