The Apostolic Carmel, established in 1870 in Mangalore, Karnataka, is a congregation of Sisters dedicated to advancing the education of women, regardless of caste or creed, across all levels and domains.
The Carmel Teachers’ Training Certificate Course for undergraduates began in 1995. The inaugural cohort included Sr. Lancia as the Superior, Sr. Irene Pereira AC as the Principal, and Sr. Olga AC as a community member, with Srs. Maria Ashika AC and Maria Anjana AC among the first student trainees.
The training program officially commenced on July 17, 1995, and its formal inauguration took place in August of the same year, with Mr. K.N. Rai, the Minister of Education, leading the ceremony. Mr. Subbha, the Education Secretary, and several local government officials also attended.
The institute initially enrolled 22 students, including 4 locals. By May 1997, only 15 students had completed the course and sat for the certificate examination.
