Carmel Convent Agartala

According to God’s divine plan, the Apostolic Carmel sisters were called to serve Him in the northeastern state of Tripura within the Agartala Diocese. Rt. Rev. Bishop Lumen Monteiro CSC extended a heartfelt invitation to the Apostolic Carmel sisters to establish an English Medium School for the diocese. Accepting this invitation, the Provincial Superior at that time sent a group of three sisters: Sr. Marie Fay A.C., Christelle A.C., and Sr. Jasmine Sharil D’ Souza A.C. They arrived at the Bishop’s House in Durjyonagar on January 16, 2012, and commenced their service in Gokulnagar.

Prior to their arrival, Fr. Paul Paudechary CSC had facilitated the purchase of land adjacent to St. Joseph School, Gokulnagar in 2011. On June 29, 2015, the foundation stone for Carmel Convent and Technical Training Institute (T.T.I.) was laid, in the presence of Bishop Lumen Monteiro CSC, Provincial Superior Sr. Mirabelle A.C., and Provincial Bursar Sr. Agnelita A.C. The construction of the convent building was completed by March 4, 2016, and on May 15, 2016, the convent was formally inaugurated and blessed by Rev. Bishop Lumen Monteiro CSC.

Since 2014, the community has consisted of four sisters. In 2017, the Apostolic Carmel initiated “Baby Land” as part of their mission. Two sisters are involved in teaching at Baby Land, while the other two dedicate themselves to serving at St. Joseph School under the diocese.

May God, in His infinite goodness, continue to support the noble work initiated by the Apostolic Carmel sisters in the Diocese of Agartala. May His blessings be upon all the sisters who have tirelessly worked for the greater glory of God.
