Carmel Convent Burdwan

The establishment of Carmel Convent in Burdwan fulfilled a longstanding necessity for the area, guided by the divine inspiration of God and the approval of our Superior General at Hatshimul P.O.-Joteram, Baikunthpur. Initially an agricultural land, it required protection from intrusions and development to support our apostolic mission. After erecting a protective wall, construction of the building commenced under the supervision of Sr. Roslinda and her community from Steel Township, Durgapur.

In April 2016, the foundation stone was laid by Sr. Mirabelle and blessed by Fr. Sartho, the Vicar General of the Asansol Diocese. The construction progressed smoothly under careful supervision, with Sr. Roslinda overseeing operations and later receiving support from Sr. Kiran, who brought valuable construction expertise. Months before the inauguration, Sr. Arpita joined the Steel community, wholeheartedly dedicating herself to the project. She was instrumental in reaching out to different areas, tirelessly recruiting students for the mission, which bore fruitful results.

The pioneering efforts of our sisters and collaborators have been monumental. The entire campus is now adorned with lush greenery, including a variety of fruit trees and flowers, contributing to its health and beauty. Current members continue to enhance the surroundings, maintaining an aesthetic balance and enjoying the literal and metaphorical fruits of their labor.
