Digboi is the land of natural beauty situated in the valley of Brahmaputra Upper Assam. Sisters Electa, Alonsa and Jude accompanied by Sister Bernard the Regional superior along with Sister Clarice, landed at Digboi on 14th August 1966 to plant the seed of the Apostolic Carmel. Every minute detail had been carefully planned by Fr. Fosatti the parish priest of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church and the headmaster of the Little Flower School Digboi, who extended a warm welcome to our sisters and took them to Bungalow No. 20, which belonged to the Assam Oil Company. The seed sown by our pioneers soon began to sprout and struck firm roots since the earliest stages of its growth. Sisters Electa, Alonsa and Jude, who were destined for the mission at Jorhat had to leave all of a sudden, on 26th December 1966. In the meantime Sister Assumpta, acting superior, arrived along with Sister Magdaline Mary and Sister Petra to form the first community at Digboi. Sister Nympha, the superior of the convent arrived on 30th January 1967. The management of the school was handed over to the Apostolic Carmel by Father Fosatti, and the institution was named Carmel School. Then Sister Fortunata assumed office as superior and headmistress on 4th June 1967. She handled the entire administration with care and determination. The community extended its whole-hearted cooperation. Students were given quality education and also value-based education. An Apostolate dear to the sisters was the education of the less fortunate through the Hindi medium of instruction. Faith formation of the Catholics was given importance. Sisters attended to the cleanliness of the Church and sacristy. To continue the good work begun by sisters, God sent sister Norella on 18th June 1975 as superior and headmistress and God has been with our sisters till today who are continuing the mission of Christ through works of education, parish activities and family Apostolate.
