Carmel Convent Guwahati

There was a longstanding necessity to establish a presence in Guwahati. Our sisters working across the Northeast often found themselves stranded at Guwahati station due to various reasons. Additionally, as a central hub, many of our sisters frequented Guwahati for shopping and official duties. Recognizing this need, Provincial Superior Sr. Susheela and the Council approached Archbishop Thomas Mennaparambil to request permission for a house in Guwahati. After extensive discussions, the Bishop welcomed us to Guwahati and introduced us to Mr. Allan Brooks, tasking him with finding a suitable plot of land for our establishment.

Despite numerous challenges, Sisters Mabilia and Nithika successfully concluded the land transaction on October 18, 2007, with Mr. Allan Brooks’ assistance. The land was purchased in the names of Cornelia Kharsati and Priscilla Hansepi, to be transferred to Carmel Nilaya Society Jorhat.
On October 8, 2007, Mr. Allen Brooks was entrusted with constructing the boundary wall, and on February 5, 2010, Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil SDB blessed the convent building.

On March 29, 2023, Provincial Superior Sr. Maria Diksha A.C. inaugurated our hostel building, followed by its blessing by Fr. Joseph, the Parish Priest. We gratefully acknowledge God’s blessings and guidance. On November 30, 2023, we joyously celebrated the completion and inauguration of our school auditorium, presided over by Provincial Superior Sr. Maria Diksha A.C. and blessed by Fr. Joseph SDB, the Vice Provincial of Guwahati. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all, past and present, for their dedicated service.
