Carmel Convent Steel Township Durgapur

In 1966, a small seed of the Carmel community was planted in Durgapur. However, it was on June 16, 1988, that the new prophetic community officially began its journey. The dedicated sisters assigned to this mission initially resided at MAMC and undertook the arduous daily journey to serve the needs of God’s people, particularly through their educational apostolate.

Recognizing the sisters’ commitment and impact, the authorities of Durgapur Steel Plant approached them to educate their children. After a period of hopeful waiting and prayer, the DSP generously offered two quarters where the sisters could reside. From there, they diligently carried out their apostolate in Durgapur Steel Township on Gurunanak Road.

Over the past six decades, the sisters entrusted with this ministry have worked tirelessly to provide quality education and foster holistic development among their students. They placed special emphasis on faith formation, which has borne fruit in the form of religious vocations to their congregation.
Today, what began as a small seed has flourished into a robust tree, blooming with countless flowers and spreading fragrance far and wide. In doing so, they keep alive the spirit of their beloved Foundress and continue to embody and propagate the Gospel values of Christ in their community and beyond.
