Carmel Convent Upper Shillong

November 1971 marked a profound moment for the Apostolic Carmel sisters, as they received a significant call from the Church through the late Most Rev. Hubert D’ Rosario SDB, Archbishop of Shillong-Guwahati. This pivotal event led them to establish their mission in Northeast India at Laimer 3rd Mile Upper Shillong on February 16, 1972. Sr. Clarina AC was the pioneering sister to arrive in Shillong, followed shortly by Sr. Honoria on February 22, 1972.

The sisters’ primary mission, in accordance with their agreement with the bishop, included visiting homes, preparing families for sacraments, conducting remedial classes, managing a boarding house, and overseeing schools established in Nongkseh village.

Inspired by the enduring spirit of Mother Veronica, their Foundress, both past and present sisters continue to serve the parish, schools, and the local community with joy and dedication. Their goal is to illuminate the motto and zeal of the Apostolic Carmel in this region, fostering a deeper love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

This historical account underscores the unwavering commitment and transformative impact of the Apostolic Carmel sisters in Shillong-Guwahati, highlighting their steadfast devotion and mission-focused spirit.
