St. Joseph School, Gokulnagar, is a co-educational institution founded and managed by the Catholic Diocese of Agartala, with support from the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation. The school was established to meet the educational needs of the Bengali-speaking community in the diocese, as there were already numerous schools serving tribal belt areas but none specifically for this group.

The vision of Rev. Bishop Lumen Monteiro CSC, Bishop of Agartala, became a reality in 2012. He envisioned creating an educational facility for this community, leading to the acquisition of land 14.8 km from Agartala and inviting the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel to start this new mission in East Gokulnagar. On January 17, 2012, Sisters Marie Fay, Christelle, and Jasmine Sharil D’Souza visited the site where the school would be constructed.

The school began with modest beginnings. The pioneering sisters made daily commutes from Agartala to Gokulnagar while the school building was under construction. During this time, they conducted admissions for nursery and KG I under a tree.

St. Joseph School is recognized by the Tripura Department of Education and is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The first batch of ICSE students, comprising 42 individuals, appeared for their exams in 2024 and achieved a 100% pass rate.
