In 1975, with a vision to enhance educational opportunities, St. Joseph’s School was established in Chhayghoria, Bongaon. The school was founded by Fr. Verghese SDB as a Bengali medium institution and was supported by the St. Joseph’s Educational Trust, Bongaon, located in Chhayghoria, 24 Parganas (North), West Bengal. This trust was established to facilitate educational and charitable activities.
Fr. Thomas SDB later constructed a new school building, and the Sisters of the Daughters of St. Anne played a crucial role in running the school. Over the years, various priests managed the school, contributing to its growth and development. In 1989, the Bengali medium school was upgraded to include classes up to Class 4. By 1993, the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel assumed responsibility for managing the school.
A significant milestone was reached in 2016 when Sr. Lidwin AC, the first principal of the school, and Fr. Anthony Rodrick, the then Parish Priest, transitioned the medium of instruction from Bengali to English. This change marked the beginning of St. Joseph’s School (English Medium) as we know it today. From its humble beginnings with just 2 classrooms, the school has expanded to over 20 classrooms and now serves more than 950 students, with enrollment numbers growing each year.
The school is supported by a skilled and dedicated faculty who work in close collaboration with the management to ensure its efficient operation and continued success.
