Women Empowerment
Asha Deep Trust has successfully established 60 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), with 12 of these groups now self-sufficient and operating independently. We take great pride in empowering women and fostering leadership qualities among them. Our SHGs are based in Kabardanga, Canning, Rania, Dhalipara, and Christianpara (Brahmapur) within South 24 Parganas.
Once a month, our women gather for meetings in their respective groups, where they share their joys and sorrows in a supportive environment. Each member contributes a fixed amount to the group savings, starting from an initial encouragement to save just Rs. 1 per day, which totals Rs. 30 per month. Over time, many members have increased their savings to between Rs. 200 and Rs. 500 per month. When a member faces financial difficulties, they can take out a loan, which is repaid with interest as agreed upon by the group. As a result, many women have started small businesses, built homes, covered monthly rent, and supported their children’s education through loans from their SHG. Some have even purchased household items and property, while two members secured jobs at Carmel School, Gariahat. Additionally, following the sudden passing of one member, Asha Deep stepped in to assist with her son’s educational expenses.
For those interested in tailoring and beautician courses, we offer training at reduced costs. Participants receive Tailoring Certificates from SINGER INDIA LTD and Beautician Certificates from ISO. Each year, we host a Fashion Show in collaboration with SINGER, allowing women to showcase dresses they’ve crafted themselves, and all participants receive certificates from Asha Deep.
We also organize various awareness programs on social issues through skits, talks, and rallies. Celebrations for Mother’s Day and Women’s Day are held annually, and we arrange outings and picnics for the women, fostering community and connection among them.
